Island Running is entering a new faze of service to our running family.
We are in the process of combining Island Running with LI Running. By linking these two sites together, we hope to better serve the Long Island Running Community.
Please understand that this is a work in progress.
The Island Running Network has been a loosely formed, unofficial supporter of running on Long Island.
Started as the East End Road and Trail Runners Club, the organization has been growing while supporting and working with races, and race directors for over 20 years, helping new races get started and existing races get bigger and better organized. We advise and provide services to over 80 Long Island races.
Today, based in central Suffolk County, we have built a strong base of runners from all over Long Island, New York City and beyond.
Our weekly newsletters, websites and social media reach over 10,000 local and active runners that run in Long Island races. We keep our list fresh by deleting runners that don’t open our e mails and adding runners who have registered for current races.
On a recent test on our facebook page we sent out 500 invitations asking runners if they would run in the Suffolk County Marathon. 225 said they plan to run.
Merging with lirunning.com we are getting ready for 2015 in a big way. All races are invited to take advantage of our free calendar listing and results posting. We will be offering additional services soon.
We will be calling on all running clubs, running stores and race directors to work with us in creating one, all encompassing, database for running information.
Island Running supports all running clubs and encourages every runner to participate and contribute in your local and regional running clubs. Join, volunteer and be an active participant.
Island Running is now incorporated to form a running club.
The Club promotes and encourages running as a competitive sport, and it improves fitness and health by supporting running and jogging. In furtherance of our purpose, the Club promotes and conducts races, hosts group runs, fun runs, training runs and programs on the road and/or track, hosts running events, hosts education lectures about topics of interest for runners, provides awards for club members, hosts social events for members, and all such other things as may be conducive to the encouragement of running. The Club also engages in community activities, to publicize by appropriate means, the benefits of running as a means of physical fitness to improve the health status of people in our community.
We will be starting a membership campaign in December. We'll keep you posted!
